Winona Health’s Healthy Kids Club University (Healthy U), a fun, free event for kids ages five to 11 and their parents, grandparents or guardians, will be Sunday, January 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Winona Middle School, 1570 Homer Road.
The event is free, but registration is required. Parents or guardians are welcome to register children for two of the following activities:
Fundamentals of Soccer (adult may accompany child if they wish) – with Winona State University soccer players. Play soccer with Winona State University soccer players. You can learn fun drills, play catch with your feet and maybe even learn about the different positions.
Karate (adult may accompany child if they wish) – with Fritz Speck at Minnesota Genbu-kai Karate. Learn all about self-defense as you maneuver your way through Karate drills. Karate is a great way to learn self-discipline and teamwork.
Ski or Snow Shoe with Me (adult may accompany child if they wish) – with Ridgeway Community School, Winona Park & Recreation and Outdoor Recreation & Education Center – Winona State University. Cross Country Skiing/Snow Shoeing is great exercise, great fun and a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors! Join Ridgeway Community School, Winona Park & Recreation and Outdoor Recreation & Education Center – Winona State University as they teach you the basic techniques of cross country skiing or snow shoeing. Equipment will be provided for this workshop. Please be sure to bring warm clothes such as snow pants, winter coat, hat and gloves as this workshop will take place outside. Participate in floor hockey if there’s no snow.
Rainbow Food Adventures (child must be accompanied by an adult) – with Anna Hudson, RD, Winona Health; Stacey Sadowski, RD, Live Well Winona; and Alex Economy, RD, Winona Hy-Vee. How colorful do you want your plate to be? Together, adult and child will make and enjoy a delicious and nutritious rainbow wrap.
And for the grownups…
Healthy Kids Club – Healthy U includes programs for adults. While kids participate in fun, healthy activities, adults can attend presentations in the auditorium.
Building a Healthy Sense of Self-Esteem – with Emily Tracey, PA-C, Winona Health Pediatrics Department, and LeAnne Morey, PA-C, Winona Health Behavioral Health. This is an opportunity to gain insight about raising children with a healthy sense of self-esteem and learn about the issues kids may face when they are at school. Bring your questions!
