What is Charity Care?
Charity Care is free or discounted care to those who cannot afford to pay and for which the organization did not expect payment. Winona Health understands that there will be circumstances where Charity Care may be the safety net our patients need to access healthcare in a timely manner.

What are the funding sources for Winona Health's Charity Care Program?
Charity Care is funded through the Ben & Adith Miller Patient Care Fund and through internal resources of the organization. The Ben & Adith Miller Patient Care Fund was established by Ben Miller, a community philanthropist, in the mid 1980s. To this day, the Miller family, local and national businesses, as well as community members, have contributed to the fund to assist area residents with their healthcare needs. Since its establishment, the fund has provided more than $2.2 million in assistance to the community.

Who is eligible for the Winona Health Charity Care Program?
Anyone receiving services at Winona Health who has minimal or no healthcare insurance coverage and meets the income/asset guidelines may be eligible for free or reduced cost care. Applicants must complete a screening process and meet the eligibility requirements for the program. The Winona Health Charity Care Program is not intended to be used as an insurance policy and is not meant to replace benefits that are, or could be, received from government-supported programs such as Medicaid.

Winona Health is committed to educating our patients and staff about this program and strives for early identification of those who may be eligible.
