Mike Allen, Chief Financial Officer

Michael M. Allen, chief financial officer for Winona Health, has been working in the fields of public accounting and healthcare since 1987, and has been in healthcare management since 1994.

Allen has had responsibility for a spectrum of operational areas including Revenue Cycle, Accounting, Information Systems, Materials Management, Facilities, Hospitality Services, Physician Clinics, Contracting, Managed Care, Treasury and interim leadership for Lab and Radiology at various times.

Prior to joining Winona Health, Allen was with Quorum Health Resources as Chief Financial Officer; and at Gibson Area Hospital and with BroMenn Healthcare as Controller. In addition, he has eight years of public accounting experience, serving a variety of clients including those in the healthcare industry.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Illinois State University, Allen became a Certified Public Accountant in 1987.

Allen is a Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Past President of its McMahon-Illini Chapter, served as Chairman of HFMA’s National Board of Examiners and on the National Advisory Council. He has received the Muncie Gold Award for service to HFMA. Allen testified on behalf of HFMA before the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee. He also serves on HFMA’s MapApp Task Force, Value Project and Healthcare Reform Task Force.

Allen has served as the executive sponsor for the implementation of the Electronic Health Record and Personal Health Record at Winona Health since 2001. He has served on Cerner Corporation’s Client Care Council since its inception in 2006. The Client Care Council is a small invitation-only group of clients that works closely with Cerner to improve the functionality, usability and effectiveness of healthcare information technology.

Allen also has served many industry and community organizations. He was a reviewer of the criteria for the Most Wired Award, a judge for the Most Wired Innovator Award for three years and a judge for HFMA’s Future Financial Leaders. He currently chairs the Minnesota Hospital Association Finance Committee and serves on the board of the Winona Community Foundation, Winona Area Tennis Association, Pleasant Valley Church Finance Team and other community-based organizations.
