Computers now allow doctors and hospitals to keep electronic health records, but the U.S. has been slow to adopt the technology.

Winona Health is among only about 5% of healthcare organizations in the country to have implemented technological advances that include providing patients with an integrated medical record.

PBS NewsHour health correspondent, Susan Dentzer, producer, David Stephen, and their crew spent two days conducting interviews with local physicians, nurses, administrators and patients in covering the story of how and why healthcare providers in Winona have collaborated to use technology to streamline processes, improve healthcare quality and safety and to improve the health and well-being of the community.

February 2002: Rushford Clinic and Family Medicine of Winona, P.A. launched its EHR systems
March 2003: Winona Health's Hospital implemented its EHR
March 2004: Winona Clinic launched its EHR system
