Trees of Light: A Tradition of Giving

Trees-of-Light-headerDear friend,

Who do you think about when the holidays approach? I remember my Swedish grandmother, Ida, and her almond crescents, my 6-feet-6-inches-tall father who hid money high in the tree and my dear mother who always made sure we had exciting new flannel pajamas to wear on Christmas night. I often wish we could enjoy more holidays and laughter together.

If you are thinking about someone special during this holiday season, consider a gift in their memory or honor to the Winona Health Foundation’s annual Trees of Light Campaign.

As always, your gift can be designated to the fund of your choice. Along with our previous funds, this year we have added a new opportunity for generosity, the Lake Winona Manor Bus Fund. The Lake Winona Manor bus transports residents to different outings in the community. Learn more about what this bus means to our residents by viewing a brief video at

One nice thing about your gift is that 100 percent goes right where you direct it. There are no hidden expenses or costs. This mailer includes more information about recognizing a special person and, in turn, supporting the patients, residents and community that Winona Health serves. Thank you for considering being part of this year’s Trees of Light campaign.

Fifteen Trees of Light will be in the Winona Clinic lobby and will remain lit through the beginning of January. For each gift, a corresponding colored ornament will be placed on one of the trees in the Winona Clinic lobby with a tag for each honoree (only the honoree’s name will be placed on the ornament – your name will not be listed). For example, if you give $10 in memory of a loved one, a red ornament will be placed on a tree. If you give $50 in memory of five people, there will be five red ornaments, each tagged with an honoree’s name. All who give and their honorees will be recognized in the Winona Post.

You are invited to celebrate all of  the names on the trees.

Wednesday, December 17, 5-7 p.m. Winona Clinic lobby, 855 Mankato Avenue, Winona Refreshments and entertainment will be provided. If you wish to take the ornament tagged with your honoree’s name, you may do so between December 17, 2014, and January 2, 2015.
