Winona Health patients receive quality care and medications from the hospital pharmacy. It is staffed by licensed pharmacists and board-certified technicians who are licensed practical nurses. At least one pharmacist is on staff at all times.

In addition, a clinical pharmacist works directly with patients, doctors and nurses on inpatient hospital units.

The clinical pharmacists work in the Family Birth Center, Medical Surgery, Pediatrics, Emergency Room, and the Intensive Care Unit. They work closely with patients who are ill, have several medications or have medications that require frequent monitoring.

The clinical pharmacists review patients’ charts for possible drug-drug interactions or drug-disease interactions and makes sure the dosage is appropriate for patients. They also work directly with patients, educating them on their medications before they leave the hospital.
