Winona Health's Anticoagulation (AC) Clinic provides point-of-care service for long-term, stable patients.
Point-of-care service means that patients can see the AC nurse, be tested, get results, learn whether an adjustment to their medication is necessary, have their questions answered and be on their way-usually all within 30 minutes.
Because of new equipment in Winona Health's AC Clinic used by specially trained nurses, most patients can be tested with a simple finger prick test instead of making a separate trip to the lab for a blood draw and waiting for results. So they get results with a drop of blood versus a tube of blood.
Nurses also see AC Clinic patients through Winona Health Home Care, Rushford Clinic and area long-term care residences.
The Anti-Coagulation Clinic (AC Clinic) or Coumadin Clinic is staffed with three RNs who provide patient education, interpret lab test results for Protime/INR's and adjust coumadin/warfarin medication doses according to specific guidelines approved by the AC Clinic Director, Dr. Richard Ferris.
