Winona Health is integrating clinic and hospital laboratory services in order to provide the most efficient and cost-effective care to patients.

The lab integration is the result of a thorough study of the work flows conducted in the hospital and clinic labs and the services provided to patients.

The laboratory is staffed around the clock by registered technologists and technicians. In the course of one year, they perform more than 300,000 tests, including a vast array of in-house testing commonly not found in similar-sized facilities.  Test turnaround averages less than two hours, with most testing available on a stat basis.

Key changes resulting from the integration include:

  • Improved patient experience through accessibility and one centralized outpatient lab location
  • One main lab for processing lab specimens
  • Enhanced mobile laboratory services for patients throughout the entire campus
  • Improved physical design within the laboratories for better work flow

In the duration of this transition, all outpatient laboratory services will be on the first floor of the Winona Clinic in the current clinic lab until the new outpatient draw area near the South Entrance is complete-scheduled for May. Lab staff also will go directly to patients being seen by Winona Health providers to provide services in the hospital and clinic.

Outpatient lab hours will be:

Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8-11:30 a.m.

Community members needing Winona Health laboratory services should use the South Entrance of the clinic for easy access to services.

Drug screenings and registration will take place in the Outpatient Diagnostic Center; registration for all other lab services will take place at the clinic lab until the new draw area is completed.

Patients needing after-hour drug screenings and lab draws should register at the hospital admitting desk by the North Entrance.

The hospital will handle processing of lab tests and lab billing for all Winona Health patients, including Winona and Lewiston Clinic patients.

Patients may receive separate bills for lab work and physician services.
