Winona Health’s Community Memorial Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient surgery using state-of-the-art equipment. Our surgeons perform a range of procedures for patients of all ages, from bowel, gallbladder and hysterectomy surgery to ligament reconstruction, shoulder and knee arthroscopy and total knee and hip replacements.
Seventy percent of the procedures performed here are outpatient (or same-day), and one-fourth are done laparoscopically, using cameras and lenses.
The hospital’s Surgery Department consists of the Pre-Anesthesia Area (PAA), the Operating Rooms (ORs), and the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Pre-anesthesia care, intraoperative management, and post-operative care are all part of the overall surgical experience.
Anesthesia Services are available for patients at all times of the day or night, with typical hours from 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and on-call staff responding to after-hours needs. Staff consists of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and anesthesiologists (physicians specializing in Anesthesia Management).
All patients undergoing surgery or other invasive procedures are evaluated pre-procedure by anesthesia staff, and a plan of care is developed. Anesthesia staff monitors patients during and after anesthesia procedures as part of the surgical process.
The Surgery Department operates from 6:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Nursing staff consists of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and support staff.
