WAAS ambulances are staffed with Advanced Life Support (ALS) certified paramedics using state-of-the-art technology. This includes EKG monitors capable of transmitting data from the scene back to the Winona Health's Emergency Department for review by physicians. By receiving the EKG data before a patient arrives, Emergency Department physicians are immediately prepared for rapid treatment of patients in cardiac distress.
To further ensure the best possible patient outcomes, medical professionals at Winona Health have collaborated with staff at regional tertiary care facilities to implement protocols for immediate life saving treatment and transfer of people suffering cardiac arrest or stroke.
Winona Area Ambulance Service is a non-profit corporation jointly owned by Winona Health and Gundersen Lutheran.
