Volunteer Opportunities

Aviary
An enclosed display of live birds adds beauty to the Lake Winona Manor. Volunteers care for the birds and clean the display.

Boyer Lounge
Volunteers greet and assist patients and family members in the Douglas D. Boyer Surgical Lounge.  They serve as liaisons and facilitate communications between the surgery staff and patient families.

Catharine Allison Library
Volunteers distribute magazines to over 50 sites for patients' and visitors’ reading pleasure. A variety of current magazines are available. The Catharine Allison Library also sponsors a community book sale with proceeds going toward magazine subscriptions.

Community Memorial Hospital's Glady D. Miller Gift shop sells toys, stationary, personal care items, cards, magazines and flowers, as well as holiday items. Proceeds fund hospital equipment and scholarships.Flowers Plus
Volunteers rearrange funeral bouquets into smaller arrangements and place them throughout the facility for patients, families, residents and staff to enjoy. Committee members also do holiday decorating throughout the building.

Glady D. Miller Gift Shop

Unusual and distinctive gifts may be purchased in the Glady D. Miller Gift Shop, which is managed and staffed by volunteers. The shop stocks a variety of gift items, collectables, home décor, crystal, entertaining accessories, stuffed animals, cards and candy, as well as fresh and artificial floral arrangements. Holiday items are a specialty. All proceeds are used to purchase hospital equipment and provide healthcare scholarships.

Healthcare Directives

This service provides the community with information on Health Care Directives (living will) through informational sessions held at the hospital. In addition, trained volunteers fill requests for speaking engagements and in-services with local organizations and service groups.

Hospitality Committee
Volunteers are called upon to help prepare and serve refreshments for such Auxiliary functions as Holiday Happiness Sale as well as other Auxiliary events.

Mail Desk/Courier

Mail Desk volunteers sort and deliver mail to patients and residents. Courier volunteers deliver and pick up mail for various departments throughout the building.

Manors (Lake Winona Manor, Watkins Manor, Adith Miller Manor and Roger Metz Manor)
Manor volunteers have a variety of opportunities including: feeding residents, assisting residents with games, outings, crafts, Bible study, movies, music therapy, parties and other activities. Volunteers also visit residents on a one-to-one basis and escort residents to beauty shop appointments.

North Desk
Volunteers staff the desk at the North Entrance of the Winona Health campus Monday through Saturday. Volunteers greet patients and visitors, answer questions, offer directions, escort patients and visitors to desired locations, provide room numbers of patients for hospital visitors, deliver flowers and assist with other duties as needed.

Outpatient Reception
Outpatient Reception volunteers manage the patient flow in the Outpatient Registration area. They work with the Admitting, Radiology, and Laboratory Departments. Duties include greeting patients, checking them in, directing them to registration, answering questions, and monitoring the waiting area.

South Desk
Volunteers work with the Hospitality Coordinator and Valet Parking attendant to staff the desk at the Winona Clinic - South Entrance. Volunteers greet patients and visitors, provide information as to where doctors/departments are located, answer questions, offer directions and assist with other duties as needed.

Telecare
This is a free service for those who live alone. Volunteers call Telecare clients daily, providing extra reassurance and comfort to clients and their families. If the person is unable to be reached at home, someone close to them will be contacted to check on them.

Winona Area Hospice Services
Hospice volunteers will visit with clients and families at home, in the hospital or at nursing homes and discuss ways they can assist. They visit and listen, assist with grocery shopping, read, play games, do light housekeeping and laundry.

Other Opportunities
In addition to the opportunities listed above, there are other specialty areas and new services frequently added. There are also a variety of special event fundraising committees.
