Free family event! Healthy Kids Club Step into Summer

Winona Health’s Healthy Kids Club invites kids ages 6 to 11 and their families to register for Step into Summer, an annual, non-competitive walk with some fun along the way. The free family event will be Sunday, May 15 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The walk begins the walk begins promptly at 1 p.m. at the bike path near Lake Winona Manor on the Winona Health campus and continues to the Jaycee Pavilion. Walkers then return to the Winona Health campus (total distance is almost 2 miles).

All registered children ages 6 to11 who finish the walk will be given a free hula hoop and will be entered into a drawing to win a bike!

All participants who finish the walk can enjoy activities and healthy snacks. And for just $1, enjoy a health meal – we’re grilling out!

Activities will be provided by:

  • Winona Health’s Physical Therapy Department
  • The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge
  • US Fish and Wildlife Service
  • The Winona Fire Department
  • Winona Area Ambulance Service
  • Ridgeway Community School
  • MedLink AIR helicopter (schedule permitting)

Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome, but please leave your bikes, skateboards, rollerblades and pets at home. Please listen to Winona Radio for event cancellation in case of threatening weather.

Eye Care Center Spring Style Show May 5

Winona Health’s Eye Care Center will host a Spring Style Show Thursday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Winona Health Eye Care Center is on the third floor of the Winona Clinic at 859 Mankato Avenue in Winona.

During this one-day event, the Eye Care Center offers a 25% discount on complete pairs of glasses and there is a gift with purchase. Prescriptions from any optical shop are welcome. Attendees also can enjoy refreshments and register for door prizes.

Winona Health Auxiliary Victorian Tea Menu

Winona Health Auxiliary’s Victorian Tea Committee has been hard at work planning the tenth annual event. The Tea will be Saturday, May 7 in the historic Watkins Manor Great Hall at 175 E. Wabasha Street. The Victorian Tea, which has become a traditional Mother’s Day celebration for mothers, grandmothers and daughters, raises funds for Auxiliary projects, including healthcare scholarships.

The Victorian Tea is an elegant afternoon tea with both an 11:30 a.m. and a 2 p.m. seating. Waitresses in Victorian dress serve tea, punch and a variety of afternoon tea treats.

The adult menu consists of:

Fresh flowers arranged in colorful teapots and a selection of famous See’s Candy will be available for sale, and a raffle will be held at each seating.

Ham Tortilla Pinwheel – to be served at the Victorian Tea
1 pkg. (8) large (8″) green or spinach tortillas
2 (8 oz.) packages onion/chive cream cheese
1/3 cup mayonnaise (not salad dressing)
2 Tbsp. finely chopped green onions
¼ cup chopped black olives
¼ cup chopped red bell pepper
½ pound sliced cooked deli ham
Combine cream cheese and mayo. Beat until smooth and creamy. Fold in onions, olives and red peppers; spread evenly on tortillas. Top with a slice of ham. Roll up tightly like a jelly roll. Wrap each roll in plastic wrap and chill at least 4 hours; best if chilled overnight. When ready to serve, slice each roll into ¼ inch or larger slices. Makes 7 to 8 slices per roll.
