Brittany Zinnel, a certified physician assistant (PA-C), has joined the Winona Health staff and cares for patients as a physician assistant hospitalist. s
Hospitalists specialize in caring for patients when they are hospitalized, providing around-the-clock care and working closely with nursing staff and each patient’s primary physician. Hospitalists are part of the care coordination team, which may include nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, respiratory and physical therapists, social workers and other specialty care staff.
“The best part of my work is learning about and interacting with patients, and I enjoy the medical diagnosis investigative process as well,” said Zinnel. “When people are in the hospital, they may feel vulnerable. It’s especially important to do everything we can to make things as easy as possible for them and to ensure they understand what’s going on medically.”
Zinnel said she chose Winona Health partly because, “It’s the right size to be able to really get to know patients and colleagues, and when I met some of the other hospitalists at Winona Health, it felt like they were a warm and welcoming team.”
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Zinnel earned her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse – Gundersen-Mayo Clinic Physician Assistant Program. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Minnesota Academy of Physician Assistants and Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants.
Zinnel is from Cashton, a small town southeast of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and she is happy to be staying in the Midwest. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, hunting, fishing, boating and camping.
