Winona Home Medical expands community access to home medical equipment

Winona Health, led by a volunteer board of directors, has been committed to its mission of improving the health and well-being of our community for 125 years, and we continue to find ways to better meet our community’s healthcare needs.

While we’ve been providing several types of home medical equipment and supplies (sometimes referred to as durable medical equipment or DME), through various departments and services for years, we recently expanded our offerings.

On November 5, 2018, after relatively minor renovation, we opened Winona Home Medical in a building adjacent to the Winona Health campus that was previously a branch office of a bank.

Our timing on this expansion worked well as we were able to fill in when the owners of a Winona medical equipment and supply store were closing their business. They contacted Winona Health about referring people for specific services and asked if we were interested in purchasing any of their inventory. We were pleased that they reached out to us and we were happy to work with them. The transfer of patients has gone very well and we are pleased that, together, we were able to make this transition seamless for them. Winona Home Medical now employs some of the former businesses staff, making that transition of services even more comfortable for patients.

Our goal in expanding our home medical offerings is to ensure community members have local access to high-quality home medical supplies to help them do what they want to do and live safely and independently in their own homes. Our staff also has expertise in sleep services and consultations along with the related equipment and supplies to improve sleep quality—which can enhance quality of life.

In addition to answering questions and helping people select appropriate equipment and supplies, the Winona Home Medical staff helps customers navigate insurance coverage, coordinate billing processes, service equipment or coordinate needed service.

The expansion of our medical equipment and supplies offerings and the opening of Winona Home Medical marks another milestone in Winona Health’s history. Now, in our organization’s 125th year, we are excited about this and other new ventures to further serve our community.
