Winona Area Hospice Services is offering training for community members interested in becoming hospice volunteers.

Hospice volunteers provide respite care, emotional and spiritual support to individuals living with a terminal illness and their families, providing compassionate care and support during an individual’s end-of-life journey.

Hospice staff provide extensive training, covering everything from the various roles of hospice volunteers and staff, to how to support families and understanding the bereavement process.

The training will consist of an initial orientation on either Wednesday, February 20 from 1 until 3 p.m. or Tuesday, February 26 from 5 until 7 p.m. Following orientation, an independent online training will need to be completed within 30 days, followed by a final meeting either Monday, March 25 from 1 until 3 p.m. or Tuesday, March 26 from 5 until 7 p.m. All trainings are held at Watkins Manor, 175 W. Wabasha St. in Winona.

Those interested are asked to complete an online volunteer application. The application can be found at www.winonahealth.org/volunteer. Complete the online application located in middle of the page.

Those who are interested or have questions are invited to contact Jodi at [email protected] or call the Hospice office at 507.457.4468.
