What started as the need to replace a salad bar unit, resulted in a bigger, brighter and better Lakeside Café for patients, visitors, residents, volunteers, community members and staff to enjoy.
Gene Hand, a community member who comes for lunch about once a week, said the Lakeside Café, “has good food, and I also like the prices.” Hand noted that he likes the café’s new entrance which is bigger and easier for people to find. “It all looks really nice!”
“This project is something that we have planned to do for some time. The goal was a more spacious and relaxing gathering space for our guests, patients, residents and staff, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful outcome. Once our healing garden area was complete, connecting our Café to it was the next step. Everyone did a fabulous job,” said Rachelle Schultz, Winona Health president/CEO. Tanya Johnson, operations manager for Food and Nutrition Services, cut the ribbon on the new Lakeside Café entrance.
“This day has been years in the making!” said Johnson. “Thanks to Wieser Brothers General Contractors, S2S Architects, Winona Health Facilities team, particularly Tony Albrecht, and the Winona Health Food and Nutrition team for a successful project.”
The new café expanded seating from about 70 people to now seating 90 with new windows on the inside as well as to the healing garden outside have transformed the space with light and space.
The Lakeside Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. seven days a week with a full soup and salad bar. Hot meal service is available for breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.; lunch 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 (weekends and holidays 5 to 6:30).
