Winona Health Volunteer Gloria Siewert teaches General Surgeon Wen-Yu Vicky Haines, MD, FACS, to knit for breast surgery patients.

General Surgeon Wen-Yu Vicky Haines, MD, FACS, was fascinated when she learned about Gloria Siewert and other Winona Health Volunteers making knitted knockers, which are a soft, comfortable option for women healing after a mastectomy. “As a surgeon who takes off women’s breasts because of cancer, I wanted to be part of this. My patients love them.” she said. Dr. Haines asked Gloria if she’d teach her how to knit so she could help provide this option to her patients.

Knitted knockers are available at no charge to any woman by request. Learn more about: Knitted Knockers, Dr. Haines, Cancer Care at Winona Health, Volunteering at Winona Health.
