This program is open to any pre-professional student from any college or university. Candidates may be pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition or any other healthcare-related profession.
The student is assigned a mentor here at Winona Health, who will lead the student through a research project. The mentor may be a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or other healthcare professional. The research project may be part of ongoing internal quality assurance initiatives, hospital committee work or personal research of interest to the assigned mentor. The project may culminate in manuscript, oral presentation, policy draft or other presentation depending on the source and nature of the project. The student may have the opportunity for clinical shadowing or observation.
This program is very flexible. The student may be required to spend some time here on the Winona Health campus, or may be able to complete the research remotely. The nature and extent of the projects will vary, depending on the needs of the mentor.

Students who are interested in being assigned a project are encouraged to complete the Student Research Application Form and return it to Lori Stanislawski in the Winona Health Administrative Office. Students may also apply online. There is no deadline or timeline – projects are evolving and opening continually. Once the application form is submitted, the student will be contacted when a project is available. We will make every effort to match the student with a mentor in the same area of interest.
If the student is seeking college course credit for a research project, it needs to be arranged and coordinated ahead of time with the student’s academic adviser and/or department, in consultation with the Winona Health mentor.
