Board-certified dermatologist and fellowship trained skin cancer surgeon, Kevin Christensen, specializes in Mohs surgery at Winona Health<\/strong> Winona Health board-certified dermatologist and fellowship trained skin cancer surgeon, Kevin Christensen, specializes in Mohs surgery [named for Dr. Frederick Mohs], which, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, is the single most effective technique for removing the two most common types of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, along with certain melanomas. Mohs surgery is different from other skin cancer treatment because as each thin layer of tissue is removed, the Mohs surgeon examines the cells under a microscope during the procedure<\/em> rather than after surgery, which allows for removal of all the cancer cells while leaving as much normal tissue intact as possible. Dr. Christensen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer as well as cosmetic treatments\u00a0such as Botox, fillers, and laser surgery.\u00a0During his fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, he learned surgical techniques that offer the highest\u00a0cure rates for\u00a0skin cancer and techniques to treat aging skin. He also provides general dermatology services. Dr. Christensen is Minnesota native who did his training at Mayo Clinic, \u201cI feel a strong connection with to people in this area,\u201d he said. \u201cMy goal is to deliver high-value, patient-centered care that is accessible and convenient.\u201d After earning his Medical Degree from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Christensen completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn., his dermatology residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (Mohs surgery) at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemical Sciences earning high honors at Harvard College in Cambridge, Mass. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
