No, you do not have to be a current patient of Winona Health to take advantage of this service.
We believe that your health care needs are unique. All SmartExams are reviewed by licensed Winona Health providers who are part of your care team. They will provide you with a personalized diagnosis and treatment plan that they’ve tailored to your unique symptoms and condition.
You never need to use video for a SmartExam. For some conditions, we may want to see a picture to help us understand what’s going on. If needed, you can use pictures from your mobile device or your computer.
Because we want to help you feel better faster, and your provider isn’t always available at the moment that you need care, we can’t guarantee that you’ll be treated by your provider. We know the trust you put in us is important. You’ll always be treated by a licensed Winona Health provider. We also always make sure that your SmartExam is part of your medical record, and that your provider sees what care you’re getting.
The cost for a diagnosis and treatment plan is $39. If no diagnosis or treatment plan is given, you will not be charged.
Payment is easy. Just enter your credit card or debit card information. We’ll charge your card and send you a receipt. You only pay if we can treat your condition.
Yes, you can enter your HSA card number when you submit payment during checkout.
You must be 18 or older to have a SmartExam account. Parents and guardians may use SmartExam for children age 6 months to 18 years.

If you believe this service is covered by your insurance plan, you may submit a claim to your insurance company to pursue reimbursement. Be aware that if this is not a covered service, the cost you pay during check-out will not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. This service is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
Never. Our goal is to help you get easy access to high quality, affordable care. If it turns out that we can’t treat you through a SmartExam, then there’s no charge to you. If your condition requires an in-person visit, we can help locate a provider for you.
Setting up an account is easy. After you submit your information (either online or by phone), you will receive an email within about 15 minutes that lets you know your account is active and that you can begin your SmartExam.
Once you’ve created an account, it typically takes between five and 10 minutes for patients to finish their SmartExam. Just like when you come in to the doctor’s office, we ask different questions based on your unique symptoms and condition, so the actual time it takes to finish will depend on your unique circumstances.

No, you will pay for your prescription at the pharmacy.
Yes. That’s one of the unique values of getting care through the SmartExam service. Unlike the care you get from some online care companies, we make sure all your care is coordinated with your overall health care needs, and it’s always included in your Winona Health electronic medical record.
