Karen Perkins, a Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) has joined Winona Health’s General Surgery Department and will work in collaboration with general surgeons Matthew Broghammer, DO; Colin Kennedy, MD; and Kynan Trail, MD. “When I interviewed, I got the sense that Winona Health is an organization that really cares about people,” said, Perkins. “I decided to be a PA because I care about people. I want to improve people’s lives by improving their health, and I am looking forward to making a difference with our surgery patients.” Perkins earned her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Stevens Point, Wis. where she graduated Summa cum Laude. Perkins grew up in the Minneapolis area. She and her husband most recently lived in Philadelphia and are happy to back in the Midwest, geographically located between both of their families. Perkins is interested in international relief efforts and spent two months volunteering at a hospital in Bolivia. In her free time, Perkins enjoys outdoor activities including biking, rollerblading, cross country skiing and tennis. She and her husband are looking forward to exploring the area.
