Ken Mogren was  named chairman of the Winona Health board of directors. Mogren is a Winona native who has served on the Winona Health board since 2004. “One of the things that distinguishes Winona as a great place to live is the availability of first-class health care,” said Mogren. As Winona Health’s board chair, I hope to play a role in making it even better. A particular interest of mine is helping people prevent or delay the onset of chronic medical conditions. Healthcare providers at Winona Health strive to do that every day, and I believe we can make an important difference in our community by becoming more involved in that area.” Gary Evans is stepping down as board chair after more than 20 years of service. “As I look back at the past 20 years, I recognize what significant and progressive changes have occurred: the mergers with the Winona Clinic and Family Medicine, the construction of a new office building at the southeastern end of the campus, the ramp up in technology and a growing reputation in the world of health care as one of the premiere small-town systems in the nation,” said Evans. “I step down with the satisfaction that much has been accomplished but there is much more to be done. It’s especially gratifying to know that I am leaving the board in the very capable hands of Ken Mogren, who has the talents to take Winona Health to the next level.” Mogren recently retired as president of Winona Agency, Inc. after more than 40 years. He is a strong advocate for maintaining life-long health. His interests include running, biking and cross-country skiing. He competes in national and world masters championships in those sports and has won two national championships in his age group. He and his wife, Sally, have three sons. In addition to Mogren, Winona Health board members are: Scott Biesanz; Steve Blue; Scott Birdsall, MD; Matthew Broghammer, DO; Jan Brosnahan; Vicki Decker; Gary Evans; Richard Ferris, MD; Herb Highum; Pastor Rick Iglesias; Jim Killian; Hugh Miller; Daniel Parker, MD; Rachelle Schultz, president/CEO; Kim Schwab; and Mark Wagner. The board is responsible for establishing Winona Health’s strategic direction; quality and safety; financial oversight; and setting organizational policy. Board members are committed to guiding Winona Health in its mission to improve the health and well-being of the greater Winona area community while remaining a strong and independent, not-for-profit community-owned healthcare system.
