Macal_webAmy Macal, a certified nurse practitioner (CNP), joined the Winona Health staff and cares for patients as a nurse practitioner hospitalist.

Hospitalists specialize in caring for hospitalized patients, providing around-the-clock care and working closely with nursing staff and each patient’s primary physician. Hospitalists work with care coordination teams, which include nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, respiratory and physical therapists, social workers and other specialty care staff.

“My family and I love this area, and I’m excited to be part of a community-focused, friendly organization like Winona Health.” said Macal. “I’m looking forward to caring for patients and their families and working as part of a care team.”

Macal (pronounced maht-zall) earned a Master of Science in Nursing, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Allen College in Waterloo, Iowa. She received an Associate Degree of Nursing from Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Winona State University, majoring in Exercise Science with a Cardiac Rehabilitation and Adult Wellness emphases. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and an invited member of Sigma Theta Tau, a nursing honor society.

Prior to joining Winona Health, Macal was caring for patients at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, where she gained extensive experience in emergency care, obstetrics and medical/surgical areas.

She, her husband, Tim, and three school-aged children moved to Winona at the end of December and are looking forward to making Winona their home.
