Lake Winona Manor residents catch more than fish on fishing trip

December 18, 2018

Late this summer, Theresa Dillinger, Lake Winona Manor Nurse Manager, learned that one of our residents would really like to go fishing, and she decided to see how we could make that happen. She called the Department of Natural Resources and researched what was needed: Step one – a license. When she received the “Authorization for residents of state institutions to fish in Minnesota,” Theresa, along with nursing student, Jessi Muras, Lake Winona Manor social workers Paul Forrester and Ashley Stephens, and Lake Winona Manor volunteer, Lauren Kaminski, took four residents out one afternoon to fish from one of the Lake Winona docks. Jessi supplied the fishing poles and Theresa, the bait. Multiple fish were caught, but even better, so many smiles! One resident said, “When I woke up this morning, I never would have guessed that I’d get to go fishing today. You made my dreams come true!”
