Kindness and sewing skills made dressing more comfortable
November 4, 2019
Mrs. Olsen* moved into Lake Winona Manor for memory care, and although she could no longer speak, it was apparent to those caring for her that dressing and undressing caused her discomfort. Registered Nurse Theresa Dillinger shared information about adaptive clothing options with Mrs. Olson’s husband. He wanted to make sure that his wife would still think her clothes looked nice as he knew that was important to her. Theresa asked if they could start with altering some of her clothes, and he agreed. Kathy Harvey, a Memory Care nurse who likes to sew, made a special trip in on her day off to alter one of Mrs. Olsen’s shirts. “Kathy has a huge heart,” says Theresa. “Her kindness and her sewing skills made dressing more comfortable for Mrs. Olsen—and that brought comfort to her husband, too. Thank you to all who make a meaningful difference to our patients, residents and our community. (*name changed for privacy)
