Coworkers team up for a unique fundraiser for a unique fund
November 18, 2019
“When one on my coworkers brought her clippers and wanted to leave nothing but my eyebrows, I started to question whether this was such a good idea,” Linda Atkinson, senior services administrator, laughs remembering the day she and Winona Health coworker Leah Dufault, information systems application leader, gave Lake Winona Manor residents and their Winona Health co-workers an opportunity to cut a lock of their hair in exchange for a donation to the new Memory Care Fund. On that Tuesday morning, Lake Winona Manor residents and several other coworkers gathered around and lined up to take their turn with the shears. Linda and Leah both had hair to spare, and, in addition to raising funds for memory care, donated their shorn locks to an organization that makes wigs for children with hair loss due to medical treatment. “I feel like we’re lined up for a dollar dance,” joked a male coworker from the facilities team. This drew quite a laugh from the many residents, who undoubtedly participated in a few dollar dances over the years. Linda and Leah’s unique idea raised $436 for the Winona Health Foundation’s new Memory Care Fund, which will support life-enriching memory care services. And, also important, it provided many laughs for Lake Winona Manor residents!
