Generous students and quilters deliver comfort and joy to community members through Winona Health

February 5, 2020

Saint Mary’s University students delivered a gift of handmade blankets to Winona Health’s Pediatrics department. Zack Braken, president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Saint Mary’s University, and SAAC member Natalie Ruegsegger, both of whom are also Winona Health Volunteers, delivered the gift. “The Student Athletic Advisory Committee at SMU wanted to give back to the community over the holidays,” said Braken. “With the help of others, we came up with the idea of making tie blankets. I thought it would be great to give back to Winona Health considering they do so much for the community.” In addition, many newborns at Winona Health will receive an extra warm welcome thanks to the generosity of the talented members of the Winona Area Quilters Guild. Members of the Quilters Guild have been making and giving baby blankets to Winona Health’s Family Birth Center since 1988. Terri Spartz, a member of the Quilters Guild, recently delivered another bundle to delight families who deliver their little bundle in the Family Birth Center. All donations to Winona Health are made through the Winona Health Foundation.
