Helen bagshaw, ccrn and aha cpr and first aid instructor, will lead hands only cpr workshops at winona health saturday, march 21, 2020.

What would you do if you witness someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest? If you don’t know, here’s how to find out: attend a free, 30-minute, Hands-Only CPR workshop on Saturday, March 21 at Winona Health. Workshops are taught by Helen Bagshaw, a critical care registered nurse and AHA CPR and First Aid Instructor. She also will share information about what to do when someone is choking and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). All ages 12 and older are welcome. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Each workshop is just 30 minutes and allows up to 12 people. Workshop options for Saturday, March 21, 2020:

  • 8:30 – 9 a.m.
  • 9:15 – 9:45 a.m.
  • 10 – 10:30 a.m.
  • 10:45 – 11:15 a.m.
  • 11:30 – 12 noon

Here are a few more good reasons to sign up:

  • About 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home.
  • Hands-Only CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.
  • Hands-Only CPR has just two easy steps. If you see an adult or teen suddenly collapse: 1. Call 911; and 2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of a song that has 100 to 120 beats per minute, such as “Stayin Alive” by the Bee Gees, “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé, “Hips don’t Lie” by Shakira or “Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash.

The workshops will be in Winona Health’s B.A. Miller Auditorium on the hospital third floor, 855 Mankato Avenue in Winona, Minn. RSVP for a specific time by Thursday, March 19, at www.winonahealth.org/cpr. If you have questions, please call Winona Health at 507.454.3650.
