Information about receiving a COVID-19 vaccine

Covid Vaccine Istock1222894162 WebWe understand that many people are eager to receive the covid vaccine and we are looking forward to having more vaccine coming to our community to ensure that any patients and community members who want to be vaccinated can be. The recent announcement on January 14 by MDH regarding expanding access was good news, however, it is also dependent on having the vaccine in hand. Here is an update on the status of the vaccination rollout (as of January 15, 2021):

  • The ability to expand vaccination is dependent on the amount of vaccine that we receive from the federal government and distributed by the state.
  • Winona Health and Winona County are currently vaccinating healthcare staff, long-term care residents, and Emergency Services staff, vaccinators, and a few other defined top priority groups.
  • We will announce information through our area media, our website and social media channels when we can open vaccination to more people and what you should do to get the vaccine.
  • We’ll continue to refer to guidelines from MDH in determining vaccination priority.
  • Our vaccination process for our healthcare team has gone very smoothly, and, once we receive additional vaccine supplies, we will be able to begin vaccinating those next on the distribution plan quickly. Winona Health is coordinating with Public Health, and our regional coalition, for access to the vaccine and we are all ready to go when the vaccine arrives. Planning efforts will also have various community clinic options available for people to get vaccinated. Announcements on all of this will be made by all partners to ensure community members are aware.
  • As part of our planning for expanding vaccination, we also have to be able to give the second dose of the vaccine 21 or 28 days later.
