Katrina hammel, md, receives the first winona health hero recognition. The winona health hero was previously called a guardian angel award. Dr. Hammel is an internal medicine physician and also serves as a hospitalist.
The Winona Health HERO program, formerly called a Guardian Angel award, is a way for individuals or families to recognize a physician, nurse or other Winona Health staff member or volunteer who made a difference to them while also supporting local healthcare. “We’ve been so grateful for the kind words and gifts from so many thoughtful patients and community members,” noted Dani Holtzclaw, director of provider and community relations. “The Winona Health HERO program is not only an opportunity to give in honor of specific providers and staff, but it is also a way to make a difference to someone at Winona Health who is giving their all to our patients and their families – no matter what their role.” When someone makes a gift to the Winona Health Foundation in honor of a physician, nurse, other care provider, staff member or volunteer, the staff member or volunteer receives a letter of recognition notifying them that a gift has been made in their honor. The amount of the gift is not disclosed, and if the giver would like to remain anonymous, they can do so. In addition, the staff member receives a HERO lapel pin that serves as an ongoing reminder to them that their service made a difference.
