Blessing of hands fills hearts

April 9, 2021

Ronia Frelund, a Winona Health chaplain, recently managed to put many of the emotions people are feeling into words for a blessing of the hands. Before a recent COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic, Ronia reminded us… These hands, our hands, represent the meaningful work we do. Whether we are a doctor, a nurse, registration, or housekeeping staff, our hands symbolize the vital work we do no matter the role. As we prepare to vaccinate people, the purpose of this blessing of the hands is to take a moment to remind ourselves what our work means for us and for those we’ll get to vaccinate. For those getting vaccinated, this is a long-awaited step toward healing and a sign of hope. The people we’ll touch have longed for this moment and their turn in line. The Covid-19 vaccination is not like any other vaccination. For those missing family and friends, or grieving lives lost, this vaccination represents a window of hope finally opening and hugs from loved ones soon to come. Giving this vaccination to people who are grateful for this day and teary-eyed with joy provides an opportunity for us to bring healing and wholeness to weary hearts. We know there will still be difficult days ahead, yet, at this moment, we focus only on hope and healing. With this blessing of hands, let’s remember to be fully present and be grateful for this opportunity to bring healing and wholeness to our hearts. Let’s remember to be mindful of our work’s beauty and the honor of serving our community.
