Newest addition to the EVS team brings unique talents
May 13, 2021
Even with no opposable thumbs, the newest addition to our Environmental Services (EVS) team does an amazing job. They can even wipe out germs from up to 14-feet away! Who could this be you ask? Meet TRU-D.
Jerry kouba, evs coordinator, monitors time left on tru d session.
TRU-D is a robot. Using an automated, measured dose of UVC radiation in an enclosed environment, TRU-D can ensure every nook and cranny of a room is disinfected. During the process, TRU-D’s microprocessors and sensors measure the necessary amount of UVC energy that is reflected to destroy pathogens throughout the room. Angela Bronk, EVS administrative assistant and part of the team, agreed that TRU-D is a solid contributor and a real team player. “TRU-D is good at getting into the tightest spots that others have a hard time reaching—even those who have the tiniest of fingers. That germ-killing UVC light it hard to compete with.” TRU-D assists staff in cleaning patient and public areas throughout the hospital and clinic. Some say they may have spotted staff doing what appears to be dancing with TRU-D from room to room. “Ultimately, TRU-D (which stands for Total Room Ultraviolet Disinfection), provides another layer of sanitation to enhance the EVS team’s already thorough work,” explains Jerry Kouba, EVS coordinator. Even though all TRU-D ever says is, “Hi, my name is TRU-D. I’m here to achieve your disinfectant goals. Let’s get started,” the staff happily welcomed TRU-D (in fact, three TRU-Ds) as valuable members of the EVS team. COVID-19 has not gone away, and we continue to follow all the safety measures and additional precautions we put in place to keep everyone safe since the beginning of the pandemic.
