Remember: no left turns on Hwy 43/Mankato

September 16, 2022

No Left Turns 091622When coming to Winona Health, remember that the entrance from Hwy 61 next to the YMCA will always be open. Construction work continues on the Hwy 43 project in Winona. Traffic changes and new work is starting so crews can finish in November. Construction updates

  • Remember that left turns on Hwy 43/Mankato Avenue are not allowed. No left turn signs are present as you approach intersections as well as into the intersections. Trying to make left turns will cause traffic backups and there will be times that those side road entrances will be closed for construction.
    • If you are going southbound and you want to go east onto Bruski, Riverbend, and Frontenac, you will have to go south to the Hwy 61/43 roundabout and come back north and turn right onto your desired street.
    • If you are going northbound and you want to go west onto S. Parks, Riverbend, or N. Parks, you will have to take a right turn at one of the intersections going east, go around the block, and travel west straight across Mankato Ave.
  • All businesses can be accessed through the work zone. Detour routes for motorists wanting to make a left turn on Hwy 43/Mankato Avenue.
  • Both lanes of Hwy 61 are open going into the Hwy 61/43 roundabout. Remember to view the overhead signs that direct you to which lane is best for the direction you want to travel after you exit the roundabout.
  • Next Tuesday (Sept. 20) crews are scheduled to close Frontenac at Hwy 43/Mankato Avenue so they can do watermain work. If you are on Frontenac and approaching Hwy 43, please take Menard Road to the south and enter Hwy 43/Mankato at Riverbend Road. This work is expected to take at least two days before it is reopened. You will be able to reach all businesses on Frontenac.
  • Late this month, watch for new traffic changes on Hwy 43/Mankato Avenue at the north end of the roundabout at Hwy 61 and Parks Avenue south, and the traffic lanes on the south end of the roundabout near Kwik Trip
