Dear fellow community members

December 21, 2022

Dear fellow community members, Capturing the essence of the current environment in one word is a daunting task. I believe times of great change carry hope as well as trepidation; a tension that facilitates transformation. An apt process for this holiday season. Navigating such times requires an unshakable core belief system – at Winona Health this is our Mission, Vision, Values and Manifesto. Through a comprehensive process of engaging internal and external stakeholders, we delved deep to discover the timeless core that has served the Winona regional community for more than 125 years. It is who we are: We are Winona. Thus, I submit one word that I believe is at the core of who we are and captures what is most important during times of change and, really, every day. My word is CAREGIVER. The beauty of this word is that it applies to everyone and is a gift we can both give and receive. Here is a glimpse into what caregiver means at Winona Health:

Compassion — Infused into our relationships and the care given throughout Winona Health.

Alchemy — Winona Health’s unique transformative process over the past century continuously building on the success of our founders and others who came before us, while simultaneously creating our future.

Renewal — Like the four seasons, Winona Health facilitates and embraces change and renewal by continuously creating good endings and staging new beginnings.

Every — Everything Matters, Everyone Matters, and Every Moment Matters at Winona Health, and we strive to live out these values every day.

Generative — Our vision to self-generate is an active, creative, and inclusive process to meet the ongoing and ever-changing healthcare needs of our regional community.

Inspire — Selfless acts of care and compassion found throughout Winona Health and our community continually reinforce the importance of empathy and love in the healing process.

Value — The interplay between experience, cost, and quality, which is defined by each person depending on their needs.

Empower — The opportunity to release, engage, and use the extraordinary talents inherent in each person for their highest good.

Recognize — Seeing and acknowledging the humanity in every person and honoring their unique gifts.

Let us all take time this season to acknowledge and appreciate the caregiver in all of us. The caregivers at Winona Health wish you peace, health and joy through the holidays and the coming year. Blessings, Rachelle H. Schultz, Ed.D. President/CEO

Through this digital column, I hope to shine a light on what we’re working on both internally and beyond our walls in collaboration with other community-focused organizations.
