“I have a connection to this hospital,” a visitor mentioned while admiring the new Winona Health merch on display in the Lakeside Cafe’. “Can you tell us more?” we asked. “I was the first baby transferred from the old hospital to the new one in 1962!” At that moment, we knew exactly who she was as we recalled photos of that event in our archives. What a fun way to meet Michele Beeman Greene! Michele also still has a photo of that August 11, 1962, event showing her incubator being carefully transported via ambulance to the new hospital. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get to know Michele and say hello to the rest of the family! Michele, now a mother of two and grandmother of three, is a caregiver in Galena, Illinois. She was back in town with her husband visiting her parents after her mom’s knee surgery. Michele’s family lived close to the old hospital. Her mom, Mrs. Beeman, who was already back home taking care of her other children, remembers standing in the yard watching the whole event. We can all imagine how memorable that would be! We love hearing about these deep connections with our community. We Are Winona.
