“We recently discovered that Jan’s first day of work at Winona Health was the same day I was born in the Family Birth Center upstairs!” laughed Tanya Johnson, Winona Health director of hospitality. “Now here we are, coworkers, all these years later. It’s pretty crazy!” Jan Klagge retired after dedicating 41 years to the community though Winona Heath. Her fellow caregivers praised her skills and knowledge and shared that she had passed on so much wisdom to them over the years. “Jan is always the first one to offer a helping hand,” they said. Jan, touched by the outpouring of love and support, said she is looking forward to her next adventure and having more time to camp with her family and tackle her to-do list at home. “You might not be able to tell now,” she said, grinning and gesturing to the remaining cake, “but the cake had a camper on it!” Everyone raised their glass of sherbet punch to Jan, whose legacy will live on long beyond her retirement. Her kindness, compassion, and expertise touched the lives of so many at Winona Health — she is a caregiver in every sense of the word. Happy retirement, Jan!
