2023 Cropped Mha Spirit Of Advocacy Award Rachelle SchultzWinona Health President/CEO, Rachelle Schultz, received the Minnesota Hospital Association Spirit of Advocacy Award during its annual meeting in September. The Spirit of Advocacy Award honors an MHA member who has provided leadership within their organization or for MHA and served in key roles with the MHA governance structure during the year. Judging is based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated leadership in MHA’s governance structure, committees, or work groups.
  • Grassroots advocacy efforts in his/her facility or community to benefit Minnesota’s hospitals or health systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership at the community level in the promotion of health care issues.

“Rachelle has been a leader in our state and the nation, taking time to engage with other healthcare professionals, as well as members of Congress and the Minnesota Legislature, on the issues facing hospitals and community healthcare systems today,” said Rebecca Lamberty, chief administrative officer at Winona Health. “She is a forward thinker and a true pioneer in the changing landscape of the healthcare industry. She understands that advocacy at all levels is key to telling our story, sharing insight on providing healthcare in rural communities, and ultimately solving issues that affect our family, friends and neighbors.” Lamberty also noted, “As someone who works closely with Rachelle, I see that she is inspiring an entire generation of leaders to engage in advocacy and problem solving through partnership, collaboration, authenticity and optimism.” “Given the landscape of healthcare it is important to advocate for our needs with legislators and congress members,” said Schultz. “Our local legislators, Senator Jeremy Miller, Representative Gene Pelowski and Congressman Brad Finstad have always been accessible, great listeners, and advocates for healthcare. I have counted them as allies on a variety of issues that come up for Winona Health and rural hospitals and health systems in Minnesota.” The Minnesota Hospital Association presented 23 hospital and health system teams and individuals from across Minnesota with awards at its Annual Meeting. The awards recognize the outstanding work being done by individuals and teams in communities across the state to improve the health of Minnesotans, despite a difficult and changing landscape.
