June 27, 2025

Certified Physician Assistant Matt Baertlein, who has been an Urgent Care provider at Winona Health since 2023, is joining the caregivers in Internal Medicine.

“I’m really looking forward to building long-term relationships with patients,” said Baertlein. “Through lifestyle interventions, preventive care, and thorough diagnosis and treatment of chronic disease, my goal is to help people live healthier lives and feel their best.”

Baertlein earned his Master’s in Physician Assistant Medicine from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, and his bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Baertlein values the opportunity to provide care in a community health setting. “One of the best parts of working at Winona Health is being part of a close-knit team that puts patients first,” he said. “There’s more time to listen and focus on the individual person, and that makes a big difference in someone’s care.”

His background includes working in long term care, which sparked his passion for caring for patients with chronic illness. “This fits well with the Internal Medicine specialty, I’ve always appreciated caring for people who need extra support,” he shared. “It’s rewarding to be a consistent, reliable part of someone’s care.”

Outside of work, Baertlein enjoys skiing, biking and hiking local trails with his family. “My wife, Bryn, and I have three young children, including a newborn “We love spending time outdoors as a family and exploring all this area has to offer.”
