Certified Physician Assistant Kaydi Breeser has joined Winona Health and now sees patients of all ages in Urgent Care on the first floor of the clinic at 855 Mankato Avenue in Winona.
When first introduced to healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Kaydi was drawn to patient care and liked using her skills to help patients. During college, she was passionate about the sciences and anatomy; and choosing this as a career helped her fuse those two passions together.
“When I was deciding what area to work in, I first thought I wanted to specialize. I soon realized that I wanted to be somewhere where I was involved in all areas of medicine—primary care, urgent care, hospital or ER. I really like Urgent Care because it’s fast-paced and very broad. I also like that you’re there for people in a scary moment. It’s about being able to help people when they’re confused or in pain versus just during a regular checkup. You’re meeting them where they’re at, and then getting them where they need to go,” said Breeser.
“I’m really passionate about women’s health and educating young women about their bodies, and being a supportive, listening ear for them. During my rotation, I enjoyed helping people through chronic pain and GI symptoms. I have a big emphasis on patient education in general, helping empower people to actually understand what’s happening to them and what we’re doing—not just going along with whatever we tell them they should just do.”
When asked about what’s most important when caring for patients, Breeser said, “I think the most important thing is that they know I’m listening to them. I want my patients to know that I’m really hearing what they’re saying, taking it to heart and considering it. And that we’re doing as much as we can in that moment.”
Breeser earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and Marshfield Physician-Assistant Program, La Crosse. Her certifications include the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE). Breeser is also a member of the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants (WAPA) and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
“I really like that Winona is a smaller community. It feels like a place where you can be a part of something. I was drawn to Winona Health because of that. It feels like they are really focused on actually being a part of their community instead of just getting patients in and out.”
In her free time, Breeser enjoys kayaking, hiking, running, and visiting national parks. She also likes arts and crafts, like painting and crocheting.
