Free skin cancer screening by appointment Friday, September 19

September 9, 2025

Winona Health is offering free skin cancer screening by appointment on Friday, September 19 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Appointments are limited. The free screening is intended for those who have never been screened for skin cancer.

This is a head-to-toe skin screening with Winona Health Dermatologist Chad Weaver, MD, and Erin Hanson, CNP.

Screening is a way to check for cancer. When caught early, treatment is typically less invasive and more effective.

“This is the perfect opportunity for people who have never been screened for skin cancer,” Angie Johannes, associate vice president of Surgical and Specialty Care at Winona Health. “When someone is concerned about a suspicious spot on their skin, it’s good to get screened sooner rather than later.”

Anyone can get skin cancer, but some people are at greater risk. This includes those who have:

  • Fair skin.
  • Blond or red hair, light-colored eyes, and freckle or sunburn easily.
  • A history of sunburn.
  • Many moles or unusual moles.
  • A family history of skin cancer.
  • Those who are immunosuppressed i.e. organ transplant recipients.

Skin cancer risk also increases with age, especially for those who have any of the characteristics above and/or have had extensive sun exposure or sunburn over the years.

Screening will be on the second floor of the clinic at Winona Health, 855 Mankato Avenue in Winona.

An appointment is required. To schedule, call Winona Health at 507.457.7674.
