November 17, 2025

Board-certified neurosurgeon John Styliaras, MD, MHA, MS, has joined the caregivers at Winona Health and is now seeing patients in Neurosurgery.

Dr. Styliaras believes deeply in the value of local healthcare and is excited to provide advanced spinal care in Winona. He joins Winona Health with a vision to create a comprehensive spine care program for the community, so patients can receive expert surgical care without needing to travel out of town.

With extensive experience in treating a wide range of spinal conditions, including neck and back pain, nerve compression, numbness, and movement-related disorders, Dr. Styliaras specializes in spine procedures and outpatient surgeries.

Styliaras embraces the principle of cura personalis — “care for the whole person.” He sees every patient as a unique individual with a story, a family, and personal goals for recovery. “Helping patients get back to the lives they love—that’s what drives me,” says Dr. Styliaras. “Being trusted with someone’s care is an honor, and I never take that responsibility lightly.”

A lifelong learner and a hands-on provider, Dr. Styliaras treats each patient as he would a member of his own family. His goal is always to restore quality of life—whether by easing pain, improving mobility, or helping patients feel confident and comfortable in their care journey.

Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Styliaras earned his medical degree and Master of Science from Georgetown University in Washington and his Master of Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Dr. Styliaras completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Styliaras enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family. Born in the United States and raised in Greece until the age of 15, he is fluent in both English and Greek.

Neurosurgery is located on the third floor of the clinic at Winona Health, 855 Mankato Avenue in Winona.
