Emergency Medicine physician Mohammod (Tariq) Janjua, MD, has joined the caregivers in the Emergency Department at Winona Health and provides skilled care for patients in critical situations.

Before moving to Minnesota, Dr. Janjua grew up in Peshawar, Pakistan. Although he trained in a major academic institution, Dr. Janjua stated “I always knew I wanted to practice in a community setting where I could build close relationships with my team and care for people with compassion. Practicing community medicine has always felt like the right fit for me.”

His father inspired him to become a doctor, encouraging him to pursue a career that would be both rewarding and meaningful. “In emergency medicine, I appreciate the variety of patients I see—from all age groups, backgrounds, and with every type of concern. The fast-paced, energetic environment motivates me, especially when helping people who are critically ill,” said Janjua.

Dr. Janjua believes patients should always feel seen and supported. “My first priority is to introduce myself, explain how they will be taken care of, and ensure their questions are answered,” he said. “I listen carefully to why each patient is in the Emergency Department and acknowledge their concerns without any preconceived ideas—because every patient is different.”

Communication and collaboration with the care team are essential to Dr. Janjua, and he focuses on providing clear closure at every step: reviewing results, confirming the plan, and making sure nothing is left unanswered. “I keep the door open even after the visit, encouraging my patients to call or return if they need anything,” Janjua shared.

Janjua earned his medical degree at the Army Medical College in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and is certified by the American Board of Critical Care Medicine, Neurocritical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Janjua has a strong interest and skill set in trauma, neurotrauma, brain injury, and stroke care, areas he practices regularly and writes about frequently.

Outside of work, Dr. Janjua enjoys reading, competitive biking, and traveling with his bike. He is also a passionate writer who explores topics such as human interaction, health, and the brain—in both medical and non-medical contexts. Minnesota and the surrounding region feel like home to him. He has lived here for more than 25 years, knows the biking trails and nearby towns well, and values being part of the local community.
