Shana Wieser, DNP-FNP, joins General Surgery and Wound Care teams

Board-certified Doctor of Nursing Practice and Family Nurse Practitioner Shana Wieser has joined the caregivers in the General Surgery and Wound Care departments at Winona Health.

Shana knew early on that healthcare was where she belonged. She started as a certified nursing assistant, continued on to nursing, and eventually became a nurse practitioner. Through her education and clinical experiences, she was drawn to the provider side of surgery and found fulfillment in the variety, complexity, and teamwork involved in caring for surgical and wound care patients. She has a strong interest in general surgery and wound care and values the opportunity to support patients through the full healing process—from diagnosis and treatment to recovery.

“Taking care of patients with wounds can be complex, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see them through to healing,” said Wieser. “Many wounds are connected to chronic conditions, and being able to support patients through that process and help improve their quality of life means a lot to me.”

Originally from the rural Winona area, Shana appreciates the close-knit nature of small communities and is excited to care for patients where she grew up.

When asked what patients can expect when receiving care from her, Shana replied “I approach patient care from a position of empathy and understanding. I want to take the time to listen to each patient’s needs and goals, use evidence-based practice, and work together to find a treatment plan that’s proven and right for them. My goal is for every patient to feel heard, understood, and truly cared for.”

Shana chose to join Winona Health because of its strong commitment to community-based care and its focus on relationships. “In a smaller, community-focused organization, you can truly do more for people,” said Wieser. “Winona Health values every person and every moment. It’s not just about treating a disease—it’s about caring for people and building trust.”

Wieser earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice – Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin; and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winona State University in Winona. Shana is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Outside of work, Shana enjoys spending time with her husband and their five children. She loves staying active, watching her children participate in activities, reading, and hopes to return to sewing in her free time.
