Chad Mahutga, PA-C, joins the Urgent Care team

January 27, 2026

Certified Physician Assistant Chad Mahutga has joined Winona Health and now sees patients of all ages in Urgent Care on the first floor of the clinic at 855 Mankato Avenue in Winona.

Chad’s career in healthcare began during his time in the military, where he discovered a strong passion for caring for others. Becoming a physician assistant was a natural progression of that path, allowing him to continue serving patients in meaningful ways.

“I really focus on patient-centered care, where the patient is part of the decision-making process. I take time to evaluate each patient, explain their options, and offer guidance so we can make an informed decision together about what’s best for them. My goal is to provide thoughtful, personalized care that truly benefits the patient,” said Mahutga.

Chad has a strong interest in wound care and treating lacerations. He previously worked as a surgical assistant in an operating room and also served as a medic in the infantry, giving him extensive experience in trauma care and fast-paced clinical environments.

“Caring for people has always been important to me,” Mahutga said. “From my time in the military to my work in healthcare today, I’ve learned how meaningful it is to be there for someone in the moment they need help. I value taking the time to listen, building trust, and making sure patients feel supported and cared for throughout their visit.”

Originally from Fountain City, Wisconsin, Chad is excited to be back in the area serving the community that helped raise him. “Coming back to this community and caring for the people here means a lot to me. I grew up in this area, and now I have the opportunity to give back by providing care that’s personal, compassionate, and focused on each patient as an individual,” said Mahutga.

Chad chose Winona Health for its close-knit, supportive environment and the opportunity to build meaningful connections with patients and fellow caregivers. He values working in a setting where providers are supported and able to deliver more personal, community-focused care. Mahutga earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. His certifications include the Physician Assistant National Certification (NCCPA) and the Surgical Assistant National Certification (NCCSA).

Outside of work, Chad enjoys spending time outdoors year-round. His interests include cross-country skiing, hiking, walking, and staying active. Family is also very important to him, and he enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and their children.
