Stuart Doering, MS, has joined the caregivers in Psychiatric and Counseling Services at Winona Health.
“The foundation of my work is always getting to know the person and establishing a real relationship,” said Doering. “I consider myself a person-centered therapist. Every individual is more than just a diagnosis, and focusing on their strengths, values, hopes and dreams is what makes treatment possible in the first place.”
His clinical focus includes depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and grief, with a particular passion for trauma care and exploring the full spectrum of mental health conditions.
“I have always been deeply curious about the brain: what it means to be human, and what it means to have hope, goals and dreams,” Doering noted. “There is always something more to learn about people, and being able to listen is invaluable. I’m also passionate about trauma care specifically; I think there is still so much more to be discovered and understood in that area.”
Doering and his wife recently relocated to La Crosse, Wisconsin, where they are settling into the driftless region they both love. When asked why he chose Winona Health, Doering pointed to the organization’s mission and values.
“Learning about Winona Health and its history, I really appreciate the local focus and the commitment to integrated healthcare,” said Doering. “Making sure people receive quality care — that matters to me. I’m genuinely excited to start here and get to know my patients.”
Doering received his Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin; and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He is certified in Basic Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Psychological First Aid.
Outside of work, Doering enjoys playing guitar, hiking and running — any opportunity to be outdoors. He and his wife share their home with their cat, Benedict.
