Richard Siegfried, MD, joins the Spine Center

June 19, 2026

Physician Richard N. Siegfried, MD, has joined the caregivers at Winona Health and is now seeing patients for interventional pain management in Winona Health’s Spine Center.

Dr. Siegfried provides care for adults dealing with a variety of pain ailments, especially in the neck and back. His treatments range from routine injections to implantable devices, such as spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation. One area he is especially passionate about is treating axial low back pain. That is, low back pain without associated leg symptoms. For decades, treatment options for these patients were limited, but in the last five to ten years, new interventions have allowed providers to help people in ways they couldn’t before.

“What excites me most about Winona Health is being able to bring advanced care to a community setting,” Dr. Siegfried said. “In my mind, there is no such thing as tertiary care pain medicine. You should really be able to offer the full gamut of pain medicine services anywhere. I’m excited to bring that level of care to Winona.”

Dr. Siegfried earned his medical degree from State University of New York, Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York, and completed his residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He was a senior fellow at the University of Washington Medical Center’s Multidisciplinary Pain Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Siegfried is board certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology with subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine. Following his training, Dr. Siegfried was an Assistant Professor of anesthesiology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and Director of the Division of Pain Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. After many years in private practice in the New York metropolitan area, he served as a Senior Associate Consultant in Pain Medicine in the Mayo Clinic Health System and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and The Alix School of Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society.

“When receiving care from me, patients can expect a thorough evaluation, a personally tailored treatment plan, and that I’m going to be with them every step of the way as we go through that treatment plan,” said Dr. Siegfried.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Siegfried enjoys spending time with his family – especially his 15-year-old son, woodworking, and fishing.

The Spine Center is located on the first floor of the clinic at Winona Health, 855 Mankato Avenue in Winona. Dr. Siegfried joins neurosurgeon John Styliaras, MD, MHA, MS, in providing care for patients with neck, back and spine-related conditions. The Spine Center offers both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, including advanced pain medicine services.
