Throughout my medical training my focus was on developing my knowledge and skills so I could take the best training back to a rural community. As a general surgeon, it’s important to me that my patients understand their options. At times surgery is the only way to resolve an issue, but often there are many options available and decisions can be complex and difficult. Part of my role is to act as a teacher and share other options so patients can decide what’s best for them in the short term — and the long term. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, biking, cross-country skiing, hiking and fishing. I’m also a bit of a homebody, and I like gardening, habitat restoration projects, and hanging out with our two German Shepherd dogs.
