The Hwy 61/43 roundabout opened this past Monday (August 1) and traffic is flowing well! Thank you for doing your part by driving safely though the work zones. Your efforts help keep workers and other motorists safe. Current work • The Hwy 43/61 roundabout is open to traffic, but you may experience some traffic delays through Friday as crews complete the final layer of pavement on the Hwy 61 approach lanes. Please slow down as you approach the roundabout. • Both lanes of the roundabout will open soon. A general rule is if you’re going to make an immediate right turn or travel through, it’s best to be in the outside lane. If you’re going to go through or exit on the third turn, it’s best to be in the left or inside lane. Watch for the overhead signs on Hwy 61 that show turn movements. • Through traffic on East Lake Boulevard and Sugar Loaf Road has reopened. Please observe speed limits along these roads, which also connect to Hwy 43 south. • All businesses can be accessed through the work zone. Looking ahead: Week of Aug. 8 • Installation of a large box culvert near Sarnia Street will begin. • Crews continue work on watermains at Parks and Sarnia along Hwy 43/Mankato. What can you do during the traffic impacts? • If you can take an alternate route or adjust your travel time, you may be able to avoid the lengthy traffic backups on Hwy 61 during this transition. • Zipper merge can help. The signs that alert you to take turns at the merge point can help traffic flow better and more safely. Take turns at the merge points. Watch out for your fellow motorists.
