Traffic changes coming week of October 3

September 30, 2022

Mndot Culvert 093022When coming to Winona Health, remember that the entrance from Hwy 61 next to the YMCA will always be open. Construction work continues on the Highway 43 project in Winona, but please be alert for traffic changes north of the Hwy 61 roundabout onto Hwy 43/Mankato Ave beginning next week. Starting Monday, October 3

  • Traffic will move to the west side of Hwy 43/Mankato Ave.
  • Frontenac Drive should reopen to traffic Friday, September 30.
  • Riverbend Road will be closed to traffic next week at Hwy 43/Mankato Ave. To reach Winona Health, motorists can use Parks Ave South and North. People traveling north should utilize the crossing at Frontenac Drive by first turning right at Bruski Drive, traveling north on Menard Road and then left on Frontenac Drive to cross Hwy 43/Mankato Ave. The Riverbend Road closure will likely last two weeks.
  • Remember: Left turns on Hwy 43/Mankato Ave are not allowed. No left turn signs are present as you approach intersections as well as into the intersections. Trying to make left turns will cause traffic backups, and there will be times that those side road entrances will be closed for construction.
    • If you are going southbound and you want to go east onto Bruski Dr, Riverbend Rd or Frontenac Dr, you will have to go south to the Hwy 61/43 roundabout and come back north and turn right onto your desired street. View a map here.
    • If you are going northbound and you want to go west onto Parks Ave South, Riverbend Rd or Parks Ave North, you will have to take a right turn at one of the intersections going east, go around the block and travel west straight across Mankato Ave. View a map here.
  • Crews are continuing work near Sarnia Street with the large box culvert (a concrete structure for drainage) that connects Lake Winona and Gilmore Creek.
  • All businesses can be accessed through the work zone.
  • Remember to view the overhead signs that direct you to which lane is best for the direction you want to travel after you exit the roundabout at Hwy 61 and 43.
