Rachelle H. Schultz, EdD, President/CEO of Winona Health, has more than 25 years’ experience in healthcare management. At Winona Health, located in Winona, Minnesota, Schultz oversees a 99-bed acute care hospital, physician clinics, a 125-bed nursing home, three assisted living residences, a hospice program, retail pharmacies, a foundation, and related healthcare services.
From 1990-2002, Schultz worked with Lutheran Health Systems/Banner Health System, a multi-state nonprofit healthcare system. During her tenure there, she directed rehabilitation services for a children’s center, served as administrator for a skilled nursing residence, directed regional home care/hospice services and was appointed CEO/Community Administrator of Lookout Memorial Hospital and related healthcare services in Spearfish, South Dakota.
In her years as an administrator and CEO, Schultz has a proven record of accomplishments: They include organizational restructuring that resulted in greater efficiencies to successful completion of building projects, development and implementation of strategic plans, physician recruitment, and new product line development. Service excellence, continuous performance improvement using Lean, and team development are key components of her successful working style.
Schultz graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, completed her Master’s in Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota, and received her Interdisciplinary Ed.D. in Leadership from Creighton University. She was invited to be a member of Minnesota’s State Quality Improvement Institute in 2008. Schultz serves on the board of the Performance Excellence Network (formerly Minnesota Council for Quality), is the 2017 chair of the AHA’s Governing Council for Small and Rural; is a member of the Rural Health Issues Group, a collaborative of several governmental associations focused on rural health issues, and the board chair for the Minnesota Rural ACO, formed in 2016. She is also a former board member of the Minnesota Hospital Association and the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) in Minneapolis. Schultz is involved in the community as a former board member/Chair for Winona National Bank, Board Chair of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum located in Winona, Minnesota, and a founding board member of Live Well Winona, and advisory board member for the Minnesota State College Southeast and Winona State University’s Community Leaders Advisory Board.
